Very attentive to children, Keith Haring worked to spread awareness of drug abuse, illiteracy and AIDS. He defended the rights of homosexuals and rallied against racism and injustice in all forms. His works had a particular emphasis on nuclear war, destruction of the environment and various other subjects to which Haring was devoted.

Located in the Palais de Tokyo, built for the 1937 international exhibition, the museum was inaugurated in 1961. Its rich collections contain over 9,000 works illustrating the 20th century''s major art movements: Fauvism, Cubism, School of Paris, Abstractions, New Realism, Narrative Figuration, Conceptual Art? Temporary exhibitions, a fundamental part of the museum''s activity, focus on the most important artists and influential movements of the 20th century in Europe. The programme also addresses current developments on the national and international scene through monographic or themed exhibitions.
